The fall air has greeted us here on the mountain. Cool mornings, warm days, and the anticipation of orange and red hues arriving soon have us thinking ahead to Snowbird’s 80th birthday next season, but not before we embrace the moments exploring the present. The wilderness surrounding us here in Western North Carolina has long been a place to disconnect to reconnect.
In Norway, they use a term, “Frilufstiv”(fee-loofts-liv), which is a word to describe a way of life that is spent exploring and appreciating nature. Whether it is rocking on the front porch overlooking mountains that kiss the sky, laughing around a crackling fire, or reminiscing on a walk to the sunrise point, the very idea that nature and fresh air can both soothe and inspire, is a reflection of living Frilufstiv.
The beauty and magic of nature are alive and well here on the mountain. Over the next few months, exciting announcements of things to come to honor Snowbird on her 80th. will be unveiled. In the meantime, we have updated our 2021 events calendar online to help you plan your stay.
Wherever you may be this fall, may you pause to reflect in the beauty of nature. As John Muir said, “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.”
Happy Fall,
Mandy & Robert
