Birding, Yoga & Old-Time Appalachian Music w/ Ruth Barber & Keith Watson
Sharing their love of the Great Smoky Mountains nature, culture, music, and history.
Events are reserved for Snowbird Mountain Lodge Guests.
Ruth Barber and Keith Watson are from the mountains of Eastern Tennessee. They are wife and husband, and together they perform Old-time Mountain Music as Boogertown Gap. Their musical performance includes stories, history and folklore of the music, ballads, fiddle tunes, dance tunes and spirituals performed in traditional styles and on traditional instruments: fiddle, guitar, clawhammer banjo, pennywhistle, spoons, washboard, washtub bass and Native American flute.
Keith Watson has a Master’s Degree in Entomology and works as a bird biologist and birding guide. Ruth, “The Spoon Lady of Tennessee”, has a Bachelor of Music Degree in Classical Flute Performance and studied Ethnomusicology. In the 21st Century they have set aside their previous careers to focus on preserving the old traditional music of the Appalachians, and to share and teach it to interested folks. They have five published CDs.
